Shalom TBAY!
Wondering what we discussed this past Shabbat? Here is a link to Friday Night’s D’Var Torah: The Ethics of Somone Losing a Home. Thank you to Paul Peyser for his beautiful davening!
On Saturday, we discussed the requirement that you must redeem land sold by one of your kin because they are in financial straits. a holding, the nearest redeemer (i.e., the closest relative able to redeem the land) shall come and redeem what that relative has sold. We discussed the reasons the land could be sold (was it permissible only for dire straits), as well as the concept that only God owns the land. We also discussed the reasons for this law. What do you think? Here is a link to the Source Sheet.
Special thanks to Ken Melman for being willing to chant Torah and Haftarah while Rabbi Simon and Ben were in California celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of their grandson/nephew! He chanted beautifully, as always!
Shavua Tov!
