On Saturday, we discussed the change in Jacob’s name to Yisrael. Why did God change his name? Was it because of a change in Jacob’s personality? Was it to reflect the two sides of Jacob – the earthly and the spiritual? And why is Jacob still referred to with both names, unlike Abraham who is never referred to as Avram after his name is changed? What do you think? Here is a link to the Source Sheet.
