Torah Question of the Week: When someone tells you a story, what background information do you need to understand the rest of what the person is telling you? The book of D’varim, which we begin this week, tells the story of the Israelites’ journey through the desert through the eyes of Moses. He begins with the end, though – the story of the Israelites refusing to go into the land of Israel and their subsequent battles and travels in that area. Then, he goes back to the giving of the Torah at Sinai. Do you think it helps to know the end of the story first?
