Shabbat Shalom!

Mazal Tov to Sam Wishna and his family on the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah!

Shabbat Greetings:

Torah Question of the Week: Remember the old adage, “You are what you eat?” In this week’s Torah portion, we learn a lot about the laws of kashrut – in particular, the animals we can and cannot eat. Many people assume that this was a way of ensuring cleanliness in ancient times. However, our Torah tells us that it is so that we can distinguish between the impure and pure, so that we can be holy because God is holy. Think for a moment about how you eat. Do you eat in a way that enhances your holiness? Does how and what you eat influence how you feel about yourself and the world around you? What do you do to make your food consumption align with your values?

Kabbalat Shabbat will be tonight at 8:00 p.m. and Sam will be leading most of the service. Shabbat morning services will be tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with a Preliminary Service and Shacharit. They will be followed by Sam’s Bar Mitzvah at 10:30 a.m. I hope we will see you this weekend!

Shabbat Shalom!
