What We Discussed: Yitro

Shalom TBAY!

Wondering what we discussed this past Shabbat? Here is a link to our D’Var Torah in Honor of Scout Shabbat: Bringing Our Laws to Life. We had several special Scout Shabbat readings, which you can find here: The BSA Scout Law, the Girl Scout Law and the Tzofim (Israel Scouts) Ten Values. Finally, our 5th and 6th graders introduced many of our prayers. You can read what they said here.

On Shabbat morning, we discussed Yitro’s comment to Moses that continuing to hear the Israelites’ disputes alone would be too heavy a burden. You can find the Source Sheet here.

Some questions we considered were: What does it mean that it is too heavy? It is too hard for one person to do? Moses will get too tired? It is too difficult for the people to wait for their answers? – The people will hear other people’s answers and get confused? It is not good for people to think that only Moses can deal with their problems? And how about that family dynamic?? Was it right for Yitro to give this advice? What do you think?

Shavua Tov!
